Bridge 5K Run.

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The Covered Bridge 5K Run/3K Walk in June drew its largest crowd yet and raised nearly $23,000 for Sycamore Shoals Hospital (SSH) Foundation.

The foundation has been busy raising funds for SSH’s Chest Pain Center for the better part of the year. Proceeds will go toward purchasing a Vocera communications system to allow team members and physicians to communicate more easily.

The race on June 22 attracted a total of 473 participants – 376 in the 5K run and 97 in the 3K walk.

“We had fantastic community support and just a lot of fun,” said Dwayne Taylor, CEO at SSH. “I really appreciate the foundation board and all of the Sycamore Shoals Hospital and MSHA team members for getting involved. It means a lot to have this level of support for the community’s hospital.”

The race was presented by IPC, The Hospitalist Group. J Penny of Johnson City was the 5K overall winner in 16:27, while Susan Rollins, 55, of Johnson City won the women’s title in 19:32. Both times are course records. For full results, visit
