JCMC region’s first to be accredited for pediatric heart test
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Johnson City Medical Center recently became the first hospital in the region to receive accreditation in pediatric transthoracic echocardiography.
An echocardiogram – a noninvasive ultrasound study – is one of the main diagnostic tools available to detect congenital heart defects. More than 35,000 babies in the United States are born with congenital heart defects, sometimes causing death within the baby’s first year. Although diagnosis and treatment has improved tremendously over the years, early diagnosis is still critical.
The three-year term of accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission is a seal of approval indicating JCMC has been thoroughly critiqued and been found to provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.
