position for another three years.
ABINGDON, Va. – Johnston Memorial Hospital (JMH) recently agreed to continue a partnership with Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) by sponsoring a nine-month nursing faculty position for three more years. A check for $240,000 was presented by JMH CEO/VP Sean McMurray to VHCC President Ron Proffitt at a recent ceremony at the college.
The partnership between JMH and VHCC began in 2007 when leaders determined that it would be a benefit to both institutions and the community in which they serve. The agreement is set for three years at a time and renewed at the end of each three-year period. The donation ensures quality education to VHCC nursing students, who also receive clinical instruction during rotations at JMH.
“We are tremendously grateful to JMH for its commitment to quality nursing education in our region,” Proffitt said. “Working together, VHCC and JMH can ensure that future generations of nurses are prepared to meet the health care needs of our community.”
McMurray recognized the significant role local colleges play in training the next generation of team members at JMH. “The better educated, the more highly skilled they are, the better off we will be,” said McMurray.” We are making health care better in our region because of that resource.”
