ABINGDON, Va. – Johnston Memorial Cancer Center recently received a three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). The 60,000 square-foot Johnston Memorial Cancer Center, completed in 2007, provides comprehensive cancer services including medical oncology, radiation oncology, Breast Center, laboratory, diagnostic radiology, nutrition consulting and education.
The ACoS is a nonprofit scientific and educational association of surgeons. They established the CoC, a group of professionals dedicated to improving survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive, quality oncology care, in 1922.
Accreditation by the CoC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process every three years.
