Johnston Memorial Hospital presents Celebrate Women – a breast cancer awareness event
ABINGDON, Va. – Johnston Memorial Hospital will host a breast cancer awareness event titled “Celebrate Women” on Thursday, Oct. 17th from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. Women from the region are invited to take part in the day’s activities, which will include educational presentations on breast health by local physicians. Topics include:
4 – 4:30 p.m. - “A Survivor Story”
Luedell Bailey, Founder, Washington County Breast Cancer Support Group
4:30 – 5 p.m. – “Fighting Cancer with Food”
Kristy Hager, MS, LDN, Registered Dietitian, Regional Cancer Center at Johnston Memorial Hospital
5 – 5:30 p.m. – “What is Palliative Care and How Can it Help?”
Dr. John Turski, Hospice of Southwest Virginia
5:30 – 6:30 p.m. – “Your Journey Through Breast Cancer” - Physician Panel
Dr. Richard Mullens, Abingdon Radiology Services
Dr. Bais Osborne, Abingdon Surgical Associates
Dr. Ahmad Hammad, Regional Cancer Center at JMH

Many free health screenings will be offered such as blood pressure, blood glucose, bone density, body mass index and peripheral arterial checks. A variety of vendors will also be on hand. Refreshments will be served and door prize drawings will also take place.
