ABINGDON, Va. -  Area high school athletes who want to get an edge on the competition during their next sports season can sign up now for the Total Athlete Program (TAP), a new sports-focused program offered  by Mountain States Rehabilitation at Johnston Memorial Hospital during June and July.

During the 16 sessions, a certified athletic trainer will provide an individual evaluation of each athlete’s strengths and weaknesses related to his or her sport, and help set goals and strategies related to the results. Four education sessions will address sports-related injuries, concussions, sports nutrition and tips for preparing for college athletics. The educational programs are free for parents and coaches.

TAP is open to high school athletes ages 14 – 18 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings June 10 through July 31, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m.  All sessions will be held at Mountain States Rehabilitation at Johnson Memorial Hospital, 445 Porterfield Highway in Abingdon. The fee is $500.
