Russell County Medical Center to sponsor Coal Bowl

LEBANON, Va. – Russell County Medical Center (RCMC) will sponsor the first-annual Coal Bowl on Aug. 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Lebanon Middle School’s Harry Stuart Field, 53 George Ben Whited Ave.

Long-time rivals Honaker High School Tigers and Lebanon High School Pioneers will face off in the first game of the season, celebrating a half century of intense competition.

“These two teams have been playing each other since 1961,” said Coach Doug Hubbard of Honaker High School. “It’s become a tradition to play this match-up for the first game of the season, and the rivalry has really intensified over the past several years. Our players always look forward to this game, and both teams give a tremendous effort.”

“Russell County Medical Center is proud to sponsor such a great tradition in this community,” said Eddie Greene, Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA) assistant vice president and administrator of RCMC. “In Russell County, football is king. And as this community’s hospital, we believe it’s important to support what the community values.”

CrestPoint Health will also provide support for the game by sponsoring a Player of the Game award for each team and will making donations to each team’s athletic fund and band department.

“CrestPoint is pleased to have this opportunity to support school activities that promote physical and mental wellness,” said Rob Slattery, President and CEO of Integrated Solutions Health Network, the parent company of CrestPoint Health.
