Tri-Cities' first baby of 2011 arrives at JCMC


JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The first baby for the Tri-Cities arrived at 12:44 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2011, in the Family Birth Center of Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC). Mother Heather and husband Terry Smith from Jonesborough welcomed their baby girl at 12:44 a.m. in the new year. They named their daughter Willow Rose after a movie the parents like, "Willow."

Around the Mountain States Health Alliance system, it was a busy night for deliveries in their Family Birth Center.  Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va., had its first arrival at 12:49 a.m., just five minutes after JCMC.  At 1:16 a.m., Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City, welcomed its first baby of 2011, while Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va., had its first baby at 2:52 a.m.  Overnight JCMC delivered five babies with, a sixth mother in labor in the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2011.
