About the Hospital

This twin-towered building with more than 600 beds is supported by the most up-to-date systems and technology. The hospital is designed to provide each patient with an outside view. Each floor of the towers holds a nursing core
so that patient rooms are close to nursing stations. The hospital is supported by respected, research-based medical and nursing schools, and delivers both routine inpatient care and highly specialized medical treatment and surgical procedures. The hospital is home to the region's only Level I Trauma Center as well as the region's only Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. 

Shuttle Services 

The Hospitality shuttle route service is provided as a courtesy for families and friends of patients with extended care. This service provides transportation for the Ronald McDonald House. On-call service is also available for Ronald McDonald, Hospitality House, Holiday Inn, Marriott and Loews - call 615-936-1215 for information.

Parking Information 

Four garages are available:

  • The East Garage features parking for Medical Center East and the Vanderbilt University Hospital towers. There is free valet service here on Level 1 (Red).
  • The Central Garage features parking for Vanderbilt Clinic patients/visitors. Patients with appointments or people here to visit patients park free.
  • The South Garage offers parking for patients and visitors of The Vanderbilt Clinic and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital.
  • The Village at Vanderbilt Garage offers ground level surface parking as well as covered parking below the building for patients and visitors.

Visiting Hours 

Visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for non-ICU patient rooms.

Visiting hours for ICU Units (two visitors at a time) are:

  • 11th Floor Burn ICU: open for 30 minutes at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m.; then one hour from 8-9 p.m.
  • 10th Floor Trauma ICU: open 9-11 a.m., 1-6 p.m., 8:30-10 p.m.
  • 8th Floor Critical Care Unit: open 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • 7th Floor Medical ICU: open 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • 5th Floor Cardiac/Neuro ICU: open 8 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • 3rd Floor Surgical ICU: open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and 8:30-10 p.m.

Dining Options

Inside Vanderbilt University Hospital, you'll find fast food and the Courtyard Cafe. The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt also has a food court containing several dining options. The Vanderbilt Bistro on Eight serves sandwiches and snacks on the 8th floor of Medical Center East. Restaurants are also available across 21st Avenue, at the Village of Vanderbilt. Within walking distance of the medical center campus is Hillsboro Village, which contains a variety of restaurants.

Interpreter Services

The Interpreter Services Office helps patients who are deaf and hard of hearing, visually impaired and/or limited English proficient (LEP). These services include:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Reader and Braille documents for visually
    impaired patients
  • Access to a qualified interpreter for patients with limited English proficiency

How to request an interpreter:

Sign Language Interpreters. For services for the deaf and hard of hearing, please call the League for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at 615-248-8828.

For short notice or same-day requests, please call the Interpreter Services Office at 615-322-7378. This line is staffed by Interpreter Services personnel Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is forwarded to the answering service after hours and on weekends. In order to avoid delays and missed appointments, please tell the Interpreter Services Office about canceled or rescheduled appointments.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is on the 2nd Floor Mezzanine Level of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The shop accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. Delivery to rooms is free.
