About the Hospital

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC), is a teaching hospital located in Winston-Salem, N.C. WFUBMC includes the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

The hospital is a Level 1 trauma center that serves the entire Piedmont region of North Carolina. WFUBMC is also home to AirCare, the hospital's critical care transport service that operates both ground ambulances and a helicopter at the critical care level.

Tobacco-Free Policy

For your health, the medical center is a tobacco-free campus. The use of any tobacco products is prohibited.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is located on the Main Level, North Tower Lobby. The shop provides a variety of gifts and essential needs that add to patients' comfort and morale during hospitalization. The Gift Shop is open Monday-Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 1-8 p.m.

A Notary Public service is available through Safety and Security by calling 336-716-3305.

Laundry Facility

Laundry facilities are available for patients and family members who are unable to leave the Medical Center. The laundry is located on the ground floor of the Progressive Care Building. Two washing machines and two dryers are available at no charge. Washing detergent is available for sale in the vending machines located outside the laundry facility. The facility is open 24/7. Call Service Excellence at 336-713-2273 to obtain a code for access to the laundry room and further information.

Directions and Map

Showers

Showers are available for use by family members of patients at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The showers are located outside the Intensive Care waiting area on the 4th and 5th floors in the North Tower. Contact the volunteer in the ICU Waiting Area for assistance.

Massage Therapy Program

The Massage Therapy Program is available for patients and their families. It is designed to provide optimal access to professional massage that can enhance wellness through physical and mental relaxation and pain relief. Massage Therapy Information Line: 336-716-8304

Foreign Language/Sign Language

Call Service Excellence at 336-713-2273, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday for translation services. After hours, call 336-713-2271.

Medications

To safeguard the patient's treatment, medications from home should not be brought in to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and the use of medications(s) from home is discouraged. Medication(s) from home may be administered only if prescribed by the medical staff. Patients are not permitted to keep medications at the bedside.

Outpatient Pharmacy

To get prescriptions filled fast and easy as you leave the hospital, drop by the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Outpatient Pharmacy. It is located next to the Gift Shop in the North Tower Lobby. The Outpatient Pharmacy carries a large supply of quality pharmaceuticals and common over-the-counter products. The Outpatient Pharmacy accepts most prescription insurance plans. The pharmacy is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Pharmacists are available in person and by telephone to discuss questions or concerns you may have regarding prescriptions or over-the-counter medications. If you have any questions about these services, call 336-716-3363.

Valuables

Valuables should be left at home or with a family member. If this is not possible, they may be placed in a safe. The medical center cannot assume responsibility for items of value unless deposited in the safe. Please call the Admitting Office for this service at 336-716-3122.
