RCMC Hospice Care

RCMC Hospice Care responds to the unique needs of the terminally ill by providing physical and emotional care to dying persons and their families. The hospice philosophy seeks to allow the terminally ill person to be at home, close to family and friends, while still under professional medical supervision. Hospice treatment emphasizes pain management, symptom control, comfort measures and quality of life.

The patient and family are offered the following services:

• social workers
• spiritual counselors
• volunteers
• aides
• therapists.

If a hospice patient requires hospitalization, RCMC Hospice continues to follow the patient and family in the hospital. People living in nursing homes or adult care facilities may also be eligible for hospice care.

Hospice is a benefit of the Medicare program and is also covered by Medicaid in some states. Many private insurance companies, HMO's and managed care plans offer hospice care as a benefit.

RCMC Hospice serves Russell, Tazewell, Wise, Washington, Dickenson and Buchanan counties.
