As a community-owned, not-for-profit organization, Mountain States Health Alliance is dedicated to serving the needs of the region in a variety of capacities. One main focus is children.

  • Working in collaboration with East Tennessee State University, MSHA is the sponsor of Fit Kids, a program aimed at bringing health education back to schools that have been forced to cut physical education. In school systems throughout the region, graduate assistants funded by MSHA work to educate young students on the importance of exercise, nutritious food and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Youth living in Kingsport’s housing communities were given the opportunity to participate in a three-day wellness event this summer sponsored by Indian Path Medical Center and MSHA called the Xtreme Challenge Fitness/Wellness Camp. NFL star Eddie George was on hand at the camp, which was part of a Hope VI grant given to help in the revitalization of the Riverview Community in Kingsport.

The Johnson City Kohl’s Department Store and The Children’s Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center have partnered to provide health and safety programming such as Kohl’s Kids on the Move bike and safety programs. Approximately $37,600 has been donated by Kohl’s in the last two years from sales of plush toys and books.
