Johnson City Specialty Hospital first opened in 1945 as the McKee-Wilson Eye Hospital. In 1978, ear, nose and throat specialists were incorporated, and the facility became known as the Johnson City Eye and Ear Hospital. In 1990, family centered birthing suites were added, and over the last decade, more specialty services further enhanced this acute care hospital.
Now part of the Mountain States Health Alliance family, Johnson City Specialty Hospital, a 36-bed acute care hospital, combines a warm family atmosphere with state-of-the-art equipment to provide special care for patients. Specialties at Johnson City Specialty Hospital include obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, diabetes treatment, general and plastic surgery, and diagnostic breast care. The hospital, while not offering Emergency Department services at this time, provides other services as well on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Johnson City Specialty Hospital and North Side Hospital are being replaced with a new 80-bed hospital in Johnson City, Franklin Woods Community Hospital, which will be a national model for Patient-Centered Care and which will be the State of Tennessee’s first LEED-certified hospital.
