Improving the health of our community is a priority for Dickenson Community Hospital. The health status of our area impacts medical, social, economic and environmental issues, so our partnerships with area organizations allow us to make a bigger impact together.

The Gift of Health

One of the greatest gifts in life is health.  For individuals who encounter disease or serious injury, this is an especially important principle.  For Mountain States Foundation, it is a founding principle that helps the Foundation bring health to life through the generosity of friends,
volunteers and team members.

Dickenson VolunteersVolunteers

Dickenson Community Hospital was originally opened in 1986 under the name of Dickenson County Medical Center. The volunteer program began in 1987. When the hospital was reopened in November 2003 as Dickenson Community Hospital, several volunteers who have been members for as long as 15 years returned to serve the hospital and the community. They are Jean Salyers, Tolby Mooney, Ruth Lilly, Sonja McCowan, and Nicole Rife. Our newest volunteers include June Mullins, Dollie Conley, Adam Childress, and Evelyn Cole. Since the reopening, the volunteers have worked 2,317 hours.

The volunteers are currently raising funds through proceeds from the vending machines and through various raffles with such prizes as quilts and shopping certificates. A future goal of the auxiliary is to open a gift shop in the hospital.

If you would like to volunteer your time to help Dickenson Community Hospital, please fill out the application and send it to Peggy Anderson, the Volunteer Coordinator.  You can call her at  (276) 926-0232 to speak with her, e-mail her at  AndersonPS@msha.com, or speak with a volunteer at (276) 926-0223.
