Johnson City Medical Center logo

Johnson City welcomed its first community hospital on May 10, 1911, when Memorial Hospital (1911-1921) opened.  Join Johnson City Medical Center as it celebrates its roots dating back to that first hospital with special events through May 31, 2011.

The first event is celebrating 100 years of nursing as the first nurse in that hospital was Amelia "Amy" Young.  She started a nursing class in 1911 which years later would become a program at Appalachian Hospital (1921-1950) and the predecessor to the College of Nursing at East Tennessee State University.
