Occupational/Hand Therapy at Smyth County Community Hospital

A certified hand therapist (CHT) is an occupational or physical therapist who has a minimum Hand Therapy at SCCHof five years experience and 4,000 hours of clinical practice in hand therapy. They must pass an advanced clinical skills and theory national certification exam, and re-certify every five years. Currently there are only 5,382 CHTs in the U.S., 114 of whom are in Virginia. For our rural community, the next CHT is a minimum of 50 miles away, thus we serve patients from trauma centers throughout Virginia and surrounding states. The high degree of certification means patients can often hasten their return to a productive lifestyle. We also participate in fieldwork programs to train new occupational therapists and assistants, as well as mentoring occupational therapists interested in developing their skills in hand therapy.

We look forward to helping you and your patients by providing quality, skilled services.  We enjoy helping our patients achieve their successes!
