Dr. Dr. Charles E. “Curt” Barnes, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., graduated from Furman University in 1986. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1990. He completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery in Greenville, S.C., in 1995.

He then traveled to Sydney, Australia, for fellowship training in shoulder surgery, followed by a fellowship in knee surgery in Melbourne, Australia, in 1995 and 1996. He joined Appalachian Orthopaedic Associates in August 1996.

Dr. Barnes is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Barnes’ special interests include shoulder and knee surgery, sports medicine and joint replacement surgery.

He and his wife, Beth, live in Johnson City with their three children.
