Mountain States, Cigna sign network agreement

~Cigna customers can access Mountain States services in network beginning Oct. 1~

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Mountain States Health Alliance and Cigna have reached an agreement that will allow Cigna's customers in the region to access all Mountain States Health Alliance facilities and services at in-network rates.

The new, three-year agreement becomes effective October 1, 2014 and applies to Cigna’s HMO, PPO and OAP plans.

“Our primary objective is to ensure our neighbors across the region are able to access the high quality health care services they need, when they need it, at the lowest possible cost,” said Marvin Eichorn, Mountain States executive vice president and chief operating officer. “We are proud of our hospitals that have been ranked as among the best in Tennessee and in the nation for overall quality, and we want these services to be available to everyone.  We appreciate the hard work done by Cigna to help ensure their customers have access to these services.”

Recently, several Mountain States Health Alliance affiliated hospitals received national recognition for quality.   US News and World Report ranked Johnson City Medical Center as one of the top eight hospitals in Tennessee, and Becker’s Hospital Review named Johnson City Medical Center as one of the nation’s 100 great cancer programs.  Last month, Premier Inc., named Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Sycamore Shoals Medical Center in Elizabethton, Franklin Woods Medical Center in Johnson City, and Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va., as among the nation’s top performers in quality.  These hospitals are among the Mountain States Health Alliance Hospitals that are included in the Cigna network effective October 1.

“We are pleased to expand our offerings with the addition of Mountain States Health Alliance to our  network,  and look forward to continuing to provide our customers with access to quality, customer-focused and cost-effective health care,” said Rich Novack, Cigna's president and general manager for MidSouth markets, including Tennessee.
