Oncology Surgery
Surgery is perhaps the oldest known cancer treatment on record and most effective against localized cancers detected early. It is used to literally remove as much cancer tissue as possible from the patient.
Even when an entire tumor can’t be removed, surgery may be done to relieve symptoms or discomfort. In addition, different surgical procedures may also be needed to facilitate other types of cancer treatment—such as placing a catheter so either chemotherapy can be given, or assisting in the delivery of special types of radiation therapy.
