What is Go Red for Women?
Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s national call to increase awareness of heart disease and to
inspire women to take charge of their heart health. Women who understand their risks of heart disease, and know the steps to prevent it, are better equipped to avert this serious—and mostly preventable—threat to their health. Go Red For Women provides the knowledge and tools to empower women to make positive changes in their lives that could help reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke.
Why support Go Red for Women?
Heart disease is commonly believed to be a “man’s problem,” and yet, the latest statistics tell another story. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America today. Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death for females and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability. More than one in five females has some form of cardiovascular disease. All cardiovascular diseases combined take the lives of more than half a million women every year – more than the next 5 leading causes of death combined.
Target Audience
The target audience is women, 25+ in age, who have the resources and desire to significantly impact their communities - women who are driven to make a difference and are action-oriented, decision makers. These women make the buying as well as health and wellness decisions for their families and companies.
Goals
- To create a venue of passion and interest for heart disease and stroke in women
- To have 300+ guests in attendance raising $100,000 to directly impact the life-saving mission of the American Heart Association
- To issue a call-to-action that motivates women to take charge of their own health through education at the event
- To create the 5th Annual Tri-Cities Circle of Red, an elite group comprised of female professionals from different industries in the community who will create passion and awareness for the cause
History
The American Heart Association has been actively involved in east Tennessee for many years. With your continued support, the tradition will carry on – funding the American Heart Association’s goals to provide research and educate the community on heart disease and stroke so that these top two killers lose their prevalence in the east Tennessee area and nationwide.
