The Joint Replacement Centers at Johnson City Medical Center has developed a comprehensive planned course of treatment. We believe that you play a key role in ensuring a successful recovery. Our goal is to involve you in your treatment through each step of the program.

Many of our patients have referred to the Joint Replacement Centers as “Joint Camp.”  “Joint Camp” is unique. It takes place on dedicated units that specializes in the care of total joint replacement patients. Patients have their surgery on Monday or Tuesday and go home on Thursday or Friday.

Therapy starts the day after surgery. Patients have therapy at least twice a day until they are discharged from the hospital. Physical therapy focuses on getting in and out of bed and a chair, walking in the hallway, and going up and down stairs. Occupational therapy focuses on dressing and getting in and out of the bathtub or shower safely.

Many patients are able to participate in group therapy sessions in our large gym area. This makes therapy more enjoyable as patients and their coaches support each other through the recovery process. Most of our patients are able to participate in the putting contest at the end of the week before they go home.
