The Joint Replacement Center at Johnston Memorial Hospital has developed a comprehensive, planned course of treatment. We believe that you play a key role in ensuring a successful recovery.
Preparation, education, continuity of care and a preplanned discharge are essential for optimum results in joint surgery. Communication is essential to this process.
Many of our patients have referred to The Joint Replacement Center as "Joint Camp." "Joint Camp" is unique. It is a dedicated center located on the 3rd floor at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Patients are returning home in three to four days after having surgery.
Therapy starts the day after surgery. Patients have therapy at least twice a day until they are discharged from the hospital. Physical therapy focuses on getting in and out of bed and a chair, walking in the hallway, and going up and down stairs. Occupational therapy focuses on dressing and getting in and out of the bathtub or shower safely.
Many patients are able to participate in group therapy sessions in our large gym area. This makes therapy more enjoyable as patients and their coaches support each other through the recovery process. Most of our patients are able to participate in the putting contest at the end of the week before they go home.
