Spiritual and Pastoral Care Department History

- 1987 - Concept began with Calvin Ross, Ph.D and Emmanuel School of Religion.
- 1989 - Proposal Approved for Director of Pastoral Care and Department Creation
- 1991 - Rev. Carl Petering, Director
- 1992 - CPE Provisional Accreditation for JCMC
- 1995 - Final Accreditation for JCMC as an accredited Center for Clinical Pastoral Education
- 2004 - Department expanded to become MSHA Department of Pastoral Care and Center for Cultural Diversity
- 2006 - Rev. Larry Easterling became Director for Pastoral Care and the Center for Cultural Diversity
- 2007 - Therapeutic Music added to the department by Deborah Eller-Nichols
- 2008 - CPE Residency Program was added to the JCMC Pastoral Care Department. This is five students for a yearlong contract.
- 2010 - Department name changed to Spiritual and Pastoral Care to reflect inclusiveness of services
- 2011 - Rev. Gary Metcalf began tenure as Corporate Director, Spiritual and Pastoral Care
- 2012 - Therapeutic Music became part of Patient-Centered Care. With expanding system needs, Doug Fox joined us in a new position as Corporate Clinical Chaplain.
