Rex Carpenter, CSCS
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
Rex holds a bachelor’s degree in human performance and exercise science with an emphasis in coaching from Milligan College. He began working for the Wellness Center in May 2012. Throughout his college career, Rex gained valuable skills in athletics, playing four years and being named captain of the basketball team his senior year. He also worked as an intern at Milligan's Gilliam Wellness Center and has more than two years of strength and conditioning experience. With his experience in weight, endurance, plyometric, and core and stability training, Rex wants to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

Melvin "Buddy" Underwood, CSCS
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist
American College of Sports Medicine
Melvin holds a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from East Tennessee State University and has a certification in Personal Training through the American College of Sports Medicine.
He began his career at The Wellness Center as an Exercise Physiologist in Cardiac Rehab before becoming a Person Trainer. Melvin has also worked as a P.T. Tech at Blue Ridge Physical Therapy which exposed him to a variety of clients and physical conditions. Melvin enjoys running, hiking, Olympic Weight Lifting and teaching clients how to live a healthier lifestyle and achieve their personal fitness goals.

Jason Brice, CSCS

Jason holds a bachelor's degree in human ecology from the University of Tennessee and began his personal training career with The Wellness Center in May 2002. Jason specializes in finding and correcting common mistakes that keep people from achieving their fitness goals. He also explains the science behind fitness and controlling metabolism in an understandable manner that relates to the specific goals of the individual. Jason was a featured speaker at the 2010 Tennessee Nursing Association conference in Nashville. He presented on the topic of exercise's role in preventing and reversing lifestyle-related diseases.
Jason has won several drug-free power-lifting championships and is a former high school All-American in football. His work on exercise program design has been featured in Muscle Media and two internationally published books. If you prefer a practical, strength-based approach, Jason will provide you with challenging workouts designed to achieve your fitness goals and improve your functional capacity.

Candice Huggins, CSCS

Candice holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science from East Tennessee State University. She began her fitness career at The Wellness Center in 2008. Candice has experience in exercise program development that can manage diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension and body weight. She is also able to work with clients who have completed cardiovascular rehabilitation. Candice develops programs that focus on improving core strength, balance and general body strength. She also works with post-orthopedic rehab patients who want to continue with exercise. Candice works with clients interested in living a healthy and active lifestyle.
Whether you want to run a 5k, a marathon, or improve some aspect of your life, Candice will provide you with a training protocol, motivation and inspiration that will take you through the completion of your goal(s).

Ron Renfro, CSCS
Health Fitness Specialist
National Strength and Conditioning Association
Ron holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from East Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Exercise Physiology and Performance from East Tennessee State University. He is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. His outside interests include anything related to automobiles and sports; especially football. He plays semi-pro football for the Knoxville Knights. In addition to serving as one of the team captains for the Knights, he has been selected to play in four consecutive All-Star games and the Knights won back to back league championships in 2008 and 2009.
Ron has 20 years of experience at The Wellness Center and has held many different positions within The Wellness Center. His experience ranges from training young athletes preparing them for their specific athletic competitions to working with seniors who are trying to maintain their independence and quality of life.

Jeremy Quiring, CSCS
Health Fitness Specialist

Jeremy holds a bachelor's degree in exercise and fitness from Purdue University and a master's degree in physical education with a concentration in exercise physiology and performance from East Tennessee State University. While in college, Jeremy gained experience in strength and conditioning programs. He began his personal training career with The Wellness Center in 2011, and has gained experience working with clients of all ages and fitness levels. He has experience in training classes for sport-specific competitions, running road races, weight loss, post-rehabilitation exercise and lifestyle modification.
Whatever your health and fitness goals may be, Jeremy will provide a safe and effective exercise program and the proper motivation to help you not only achieve those goals, but to exceed those goals. "Be the best you that you can possibly be", he says.
