How Do I Choose A Doctor For My Baby?

You can choose a pediatrician (a doctor who is specially trained to care for children) or a family practice doctor. Start by checking which doctors are on your insurance list. Whichever doctor you choose, ask about:

  • his or her philosophy on breastfeeding, discipline and parenting
  • how to contact him or her in the middle of the night
  • whether the office has sick/well waiting areas or sick/well hours

Prenatal interviews are important! The doctor you choose is the person to whom you are entrusting your child's health care.
Get started early - you should choose a doctor for your baby by the 36th week of your pregnancy.

While you are in the hospital for the birth of your baby, your baby will be cared for by Highlands Pediatrics, 26210 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va., 276-623-8100.
