Bone
density measurements are increasingly important as you age. After
you reach the age of 65, it’s recommended that you have routine
bone density measurements, as recommended by your provider. If you’re
at an increased risk
for osteoporosis, you should start having bone
density measurement at a younger age. The test is intended to measure
the density of your bones, showing your level of risk for fracture.
The test consists of a scan of the lower back, hip, wrists and/ or
heel. The bones in these areas are the most prone to fractures. Ultrasound,
CT and other forms of scans can be used to assess the risks of osteoporosis. |
