Remember
that you can still get pregnant up until you have been without a
menstrual period for one year. Many doctors prescribe low-dose birth
control pills for perimenopausal women because they can help regulate
irregular periods, and deal with some symptoms as well as protect
you against pregnancy. The lower dosage of estrogen is important
for perimenopausal women because it lowers the risks associated with
other estrogen and hormone based therapies. If you are not sure about
whether you are going through menopause, your provider can perform
a test to verify it for you.
