Compulsive
overeating, or “binge eating disorder,” is characterized
by recurrent overeating. Unlike bulimia, in binge eating disorder,
a person will not use other behavior to make up for the binge. However,
the bingeing involved is similar to that of bulimia because it is
characterized by the feeling of loss of control. Many times, a compulsive
overeater will feel disgusted or ashamed after bingeing. Also, compulsive
overeaters will often eat in private to keep their bingeing a secret
and will binge when they aren’t even hungry. Binge eating
has obvious consequences on health, including obesity. Many effects
of
obesity include high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, heart
disease, diabetes and gallbladder dise ase.
