Your
healthcare provider will administer an eye exam at your regular check-up
to detect any vision impairments. The exam consists of reading an
eye chart. If something is wrong with your vision, your provider
will recommend you see an optometrist to check the movement, peripheral
vision, color vision and acuity. Your optometrist will be able to
see the inside of your eye and will measure the pressure inside your
eyeball. The eye exam will detect glaucoma, macular degeneration,
or cataracts. If you have poor eyesight, you’ll be able to
get eyeglasses or contact lenses to help you see. You should have
at least one exam between the ages of 20 and 39. If you already wear
glasses, you should have an eye exam every two years. After you turn
40, you should have an eye exam more often and even more often after
you turn 65. |
